Did you ever think that the President of the United States of America (POTUS) will say that he admires Bollywood movies? No? Well, it just happened. Donald Trump mentioned Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol starrer 1995 movie Dilwale Dulhania Le Jaayenge (DDLJ) and Amitabh Bachchan and Dharmendra starrer Sholay during his speech at Ahmadabad cricket stadium in India.
At the ‘Namaste Trump’ event in India’s westernmost state, the US President said that both Washington and New Delhi enjoy strong cultural relations and many US citizens are totally fan of Indian culture and their movies.
“Indians and Americans are always striving to be greater. Our people are always seeking to be better. So our nations have become thriving centres of culture, commerce and civilisations giving light and vitality to all of the world,” Trump said.
He added, “This is the country that produces nearly 2000 movies a year from the hub of genius and creativity known as Bollywood. All over the planet people take great joy in scenes of bhangra, music, dance, romance and drama and classic Indian films like DDLJ and Sholay.”
Indian crowd cheered the US President when he Dilwale Dulhania Le Jaayenge (DDLJ) and Sholay. This is not the first time when a US President was praising any Indian movie or Bollywood stars. In 2015, the then POTUS Barrack Obama enthralled the people when he said Shah Rukh Khan’s famous dialogue from DDLJ during his India visit for the Republic Day celebrations.
“Senorita… Badi badi deshon mein… you know what I mean,” Obama had said.
Earlier in the day, Donald Trump and wife Melania Trump visited the Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmadabad during their maiden trip to the Hindu-dominated country. They are on a two-day visit and will next be going to Taj Mahal in Agra, before flying to New Delhi for diplomatic meetings.
