Re-release of Joker to affect ‘Love Aaj Kal’ box office business?

Todd Phillips directorial Joker seems still in the race of success after it earned Joaquin Phoenix his first Oscar for the Best Actor in the movie.

The movie has been a blockbuster and has already gained lots of praise by the fans and followers of Joker from around the globe. And now Joaquin Phoenix will be ready to take his super hit movie to the Indian theatres. The film, which has remained an award-season favourite, is going to be re-released in India on February 14, the occasion of Valentine’s Day.

The film was earlier released in the country in October 2019, and it faced a great competition by the Bollywood movies which succeeded to draw in impressive numbers. However, the movie is coming back to India once again and it is slated to re-release in the theatres this month.

Supporting Phoenix’s movie, Quentin Tarantino directorial ‘Once Upon A Time… In Hollywood’ is also going to give a tough time to the Indian movies that are slated to release this year.

Both the Hollywood movies are re-releasing in India this Friday. It might be an alarming situation for Imtiaz Ali’s ‘Love Aaj Kal’ as the romantic drama is also going to hit the theatres on same day. The movie is a remake of 2009 romantic comedy drama starring Sara Ali Khan and Kartik Aaryan in lead roles.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh doesn’t seem to think so as he says that there is no threat to Love Aaj Kal as the romantic couple [Sara and Kartik] are already hugely popular with the youth.

“What I get right now is that they will be released in selected screens and selected metros. I don’t think it will affect ‘Love Aaj Kal’ because this is a Hindi film and, Kartik Aaryan and Sara Ali Khan are teen sensations and hugely popular with the youth,” he said.

He went on to explain, “‘Once Upon A Time… In Hollywood’ and ‘Joker’ are limited to only a few cities and select multiplexes, so I don’t think they would cut into the business of Hindi films. These Hollywood films are for a very select audience, but Hindi films cater to a wider audience.”
