Famous Urdu poet and writer of Pakistan, Amjad Islam Amjad was honored with the prestigious “Necip Fazil International Culture and Art Award” in a ceremony held in Turkey’s Istanbul city.
Amjad Islam Amjad was given award in a ceremony organized to honor the literary heritage of Turkish poet and philosopher Necip Fazil Kisakurek. The ceremony was attended by Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan and other leading literary figures.
The Pakistani poet is the only foreign recipient of this award and it turned into a Pak-Turkey love fest real quick. The Turkish President congratulated Pakistani literary icon during his address to the ceremony. He said:
“Amjad Islam Amjad is one of the most important poets in modern Urdu literature and a prominent figure in Pakistan. Pakistan is a cherished friend of Turkey. Typically relationships are based on mutual benefit. But the Turkey-Pakistan friendship is based on sincerity and solidarity.”
Speaking on the occasion, Amjad, while thanking the jury and the Turkish authorities for bestowing the award upon him, said:

“Turkey is close to every Pakistani’s heart. Our hearts are together. Pakistan and Turkey share a true bond of love and brotherhood. I consider Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan the greatest leader of the Muslim world in present times. I thank Mr. President, the jury, and all the others for honoring me with this title. Thank you all of you.”
Pakistan’s Ambassador to Turkey Syrus Qazi also addressed the ceremony and said:
“The award is an acknowledgement of Amjad’s outstanding contributions to literature. He is one of the best poets and writers of Pakistan who promotes our art and culture worldwide.”
The Pakistani ambassador also highlighted the love, affection, and respect among the Turkish people and leadership for Pakistan and its people. He thanked President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for the love and the respect he shows for people of Pakistan.
