The President of the United States (POTUS), Donald Trump seems to like staying in the news headlines. Trump always lands himself in controversies due to his statements, which sometimes are racist rant. This time he cheered a crowd at a rally at Colorado Springs, Colorado when he spoke about Oscars event and South Korean movie Parasite.
The Republican Trump seemed not in favor of the South Korean movie Parasite that swept Oscar awards 2020. He lashed out at the organising committee of Academy Awards for bringing the movie that is made outside the US to the event and honoring it with most rewards.
Parasite won 4 Oscars and made Oscar history. It got Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Foreign Language Film.
At the Colorado rally, Trump went furious while talking about the movie and the awards it received. He said:
“By the way, how bad were the Academy Awards this year? Did you see them?”
the US President did not even remember the name of the movie. He just mentioned ‘a South Korean movie’.
“And the winner is … a movie from South Korea. What the hell was that all about? We’ve got enough problems with South Korea with trade. On top of that they give them the best movie of the year? Was it good? I don’t know,” he said.
Donald Trump also asked for more films like Gone with the Wind, which has been revised as deeply problematic and racist.
“You know I’m looking for, like, where …. Let’s get Gone with the Wind? Can we get, like, Gone with the Wind back please? Sunset Boulevard…so many great movies.
The winner is … from South Korea. I thought it was best foreign film, right? Best foreign movie! No, it was the … did this ever happen before?”
Trump praising Gone with the Wind invited criticism by the social media users from all around the world and many said that he was taking the US to an racist state on planet earth.
