Indian music composer and director AR Rahman is looking forward to see his penned movie 99 Songs to do well on the box office and that’s why he is in no mood to take any risks that could create any problems for him and could delay the release of his production.
Oscar winning music composer has written this movie and is producing it himself. The movie is directed by debutante Vishwesh Krishnamoorthy.
The story of the movie revolves around a guy who is crazy for music and seeks a chance which could take him towards success. That’s why the director was looking for a guy who could act and sing and is also handsome and charming at the same time.
However, seems Krishnamoorthy didn’t find anyone with the mentioned features in India so he decided to pick someone from neighbouring country, PAKISTAN!
“We were looking for a hero who could sing, act and who was charming. So, we were scanning everything and our friend (director) goes to Pakistan and he picks up three guys from Pakistan and I said, ‘Why can’t you find any boy in India who can sing?’,” said the Indian music maestro in a recent interview.
The 99 Songs director had auditioned three Pakistani actor-musicians for lead role. But, AR Rahman didn’t like his idea and advised him to choose someone from India to avoid any trouble.
“I asked Vishwesh what if something happened between India and Pakistan. I was aware of the situation between two countries and artistes from the neighbouring country [Pakistan] faced a boycott by the Indian Motion Picture Producers Association following the Uri attack in 2016.”
Rahman Continued: “But he said, ‘No sir, this guy can sing and he plays very well.’ I said what if something happens? This was before all the trouble happened. I said, ‘This is my first movie, don’t make problem for me.’ The exact same thing happened, no? I’m so glad… then we went back to audition again.”
99 Songs features Ehan Bhat, Edilsy Vargas, Manisha Koirala, Lisa Ray, Rahul Ram and Ranjit Barot.
