Legendary Bollywood actor and host of most popular game show Kaun Banega Crore Pati has been honored with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award on Sunday evening.
Amitabh Bachchan is the recipient of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for this year and he was supposed to get the award at the the National Film Awards ceremony where all the recipients of the award are honored every year. However, because of the actor’s ailing health, he couldn’t attend the ceremony and get his award.
The government decided to organise a felicitation ceremony in the honor of Big B of Bollywood, as known by his millions of fans and followers around the globe. Amitabh arrived at the Rashtrapati Bhavan with his wife Jaya Bachchan and son Abhishek Bachchan to attend the felicitation ceremony on Sunday evening.
On the occasion, senior Bachchan, while expressing gratitude to his parents, the film fraternity and all his fans and followers, said that he’s most indebted to the audience for their love and support.
“Indian audience is the reason I’m here today,” said the Baghban actor.
Addressing the gathering, Big B said that Dadasaheb Phalke award was established 50 years ago, and incidentally, he started his career 50 years back. While wrapping up his speech, the actor joked if the award is a hint for him to retire from the industry now. He said:
“Jab iss puraskar ki ghoshna hui, toh mere mann mein ek sandeh utha, ki kya yeh sanket hai mere liye ki ‘Bhaisahab, aap ne bahut kaam kar liya, ab ghar baith kar aaram kariye.”
[When this award was announced, a thought came in my heart as if it was the message for me saying that I have done much of work, and now I should stay at home and rest].
A three-minute clip highlighting the most popular dialogues from all the super-hit movies of Amitabh Bachchan was screened at the ceremony.
